When the international community faces difficult times of conflicts and crises, the unity of our countries is of special value. History has repeatedly proved: only together are we able to worthily respond to any challenges.
Every year on April 2, the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Belarus and Russia is celebrated. It was on this day in 1996 that the Presidents of the two states, Alexander Lukashenko and Boris Yeltsin, signed the Treaty on the Formation of the Community of Russia and Belarus in Moscow. Exactly one year later, on April 2, 1997, the Treaty "On the Union of Belarus and Russia" was signed, which gave a new impetus to the process of comprehensive integration of the two states.
For more than two decades we have been building the Union State. Interregional ties are a significant component of Belarusian-Russian relations. Since 2014, the Forums of Regions have been held. Conditions have been created to ensure equal rights for citizens of Russia and Belarus in social security, access to education, and medical care. Chairman of the Supreme State Council of the Union State, President Alexander Lukashenko congratulated Belarusians and Russians on the Day of Unity of the Peoples.
President's message of congratulations on the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Belarus and Russia
"Being sovereign states, developing as independent nations, we are bound by centuries-old history, the history of great victories in the name of the Fatherland and the heroic struggle for a peaceful future, for the right to live and work on our land".
Alexander Lukashenko said: "The freedom-loving Belarusians and Russians, their resilience and commitment to creation make the Union State an example for other nations, weary of overseas expansion, with its unprincipled methods of subordination of all inhabitants of the planet to the interests of a superpower. We are expanding and deepening the integration between Belarus and Russia in order to be stronger than sanctions and global leadership."
The leaders of the two countries exchanged congratulations. Alexander Lukashenko expressed the belief that fostering the creative potential of the Union through the build-up of multilateral ties is the most effective response of the fraternal peoples of Belarus and Russia to modern challenges and threats.
Vladimir Putin, in his turn, stressed that the two countries have recently managed to do a lot to develop the integration cooperation and constructive bilateral contacts.
