Alexei Adashkin: This was stated today at a meeting of President Alexander Lukashenko and State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Special Assistant to Prime Minister of Pakistan Sayed Tariq Fatemi. Alexander Lukashenko plans to visit Pakistan in October. Belarus and Pakistan have reached a high level of political interaction in a very short period of time.
Last year, Alexander Lukashenko visited Pakistan for the first time.
Two and a half months later Alexander Lukashenko personally met Nawaz Sharif at the airport. As a result of the visit the two countries signed nearly six dozen documents. Among them is a declaration of the Belarusian-Pakistani partnership and the agreement on friendship and cooperation.
Belarus will be able to increase exports and increase its manufacturing presence in Asia. After all, the plan provides not only an increase in the volume of trade, but also the launch of a number of joint ventures.
In October President Alexander Lukashenko plans to visit Islamabad. The tour program is now being worked out in detail.
Pakistan is the sixth most populous country in the world.
Minsk and Islamabad will discuss their involvement of third countries in joint projects.
Last year the mutual trade turnover between the two countries amounted to slightly less than 60 million dollars. We supply tractors, potash fertilizers, synthetic fibers, tires, newsprint, and baby food to Pakistan. Major imports from the Asian country in Belarus include rice, food products, leather products, textiles, and sporting equipment.
Tractors now form the most significant part of Belarusian export to Pakistan.
