Belarus and Latvia open new page of relations

The two-day visit of the governmental delegation led by Prime Minister Maris Kuchinskis to Minsk included a round of talks in the government and parliament, meetings with business, visiting the high-tech park and the Great Stone Industrial Park. By the way, the high guest from Latvia became the first foreign premier, who personally got acquainted with the ambitious Belarusian-Chinese project. As a result of the meetings, a number of documents were signed in the field of economic cooperation, nuclear safety, as well as cooperation in the field of physical culture and sports. Traditionally for our countries, the focus was on transport and logistics, the promising opportunities for transit, as well as the sphere of high technology. The meeting in the Palace of Independence was a frank dialogue between the Latvian Prime Minister and the President of Belarus.

Before negotiations in the government there were meetings with the chairmen of the upper and lower chambers of the parliament, Mikhail Myasnikovich and Vladimir Andreichenko. But perhaps the main item on the agenda of the Latvian Prime Minister is a meeting in the Palace of Independence.

There have been different periods in the relations between Europe and Belarus, but neighbors are destined to work together. On the one hand, Latvia, as a disciplined member of the EU and NATO, follows the course of the West, on the other hand, on some issues, has its own principled position.

The Latvian Prime Minister will also say that Latvia is interested in normalizing and developing relations between Belarus and the European Union.

For Belarus, Latvia still occupies the 7th place in the list of strategic trade partners in the European Union. For a number of reasons in recent years, the transit of petroleum products through its seaports was practically frozen.

Cargo transportation, logistics and port services and simplifying the movement of goods from East to West.

Today, any prospect of transit through Belarus is seen by Latvians through the prism of relations with China, and the unique Belarusian-Chinese industrial park Great Stone.

For convenient and fast delivery of diesel engines, Latvians are ready to take part in a joint project with Belarusians on the electrification of railways in both directions.

And tourism and hockey. Belarus and Latvia in 2021 will hold a hockey world championship.

The tournament has every chance to become the best in the history of the tournament. And mutual interest in history and culture, large-scale sports projects, will be inspired by tourism.

Alexander Lukashenko confessed to the Latvian Prime Minister that Belarus is ready to act as the traditional guarantor of the policy of good-neighborliness.

The visit of the Latvian prime minister in today's political realities is a landmark. This is the beginning of the new era of relations. The parties do not promise a rapid growth of mutual trade. But they guarantee that all efforts will be made by Minsk and Riga for this.
