A big talk on the efficiency of law enforcement system in our country was held today in the Palace of Independence. It was tough and principled. The tasks set by the head of state for the bodies in charge of security require maximum coordination of actions. It is not the time to talk about achievements, although no one diminishes their value. Our national security is at stake. The response of the state to any destabilization attempts will be exclusively legal, especially with regard to the facts of extremism and terrorism. Today, reports were made by the Prosecutor General, the heads of the KGB, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Emergency Situations Ministry and the Minister of Education. Everything is interconnected: the future of our children depends on the order in schools and education in general. Statistics, unfortunately, is not good: the number of facts of use and distribution of drugs among minors is growing. Talking about patriotism and prevention is not enough here. It must be a joint effort of parents, teachers and the police.
Lately we've been more focused on protecting the borders. But it has been a long time since we dealt publicly with domestic issues related to the public situation and law and order.
Alexander Lukashenko, President of Belarus:
“I have stressed many times: we have to learn to live by the law, not by directives, presidential decrees and finger-pointing where to go and how, but to live by the law if we want to keep peace and tranquility in our country. The law, the norms of law must be obeyed by everyone.”
Alexander Lukashenko, President of Belarus:
“We want to look ahead - how we are going to live and work, point out shortcomings, take a critical look at our work. This is why governors, individual ministers and the Prime Minister have been invited here. They will certainly voice their criticism of the security sector. What else do we need in these conditions, difficult conditions in the development of an independent state?”
Andrei Shved, Prosecutor General of Belarus:
I will start with the problem of improving the effectiveness of countering extremism. As a result of the measures taken, the situation has somewhat improved this year. However, it is obvious that the disclosure of only half of the committed crimes can't be a reason for complacency. Not all perpetrators of bodily injury to police officers, sabotage of transport facilities, arson of buildings and other audacious crimes have been identified. Particular attention should be paid to the increased risks of sabotage and acts of terrorism at transportation facilities. Since August 2020, 121 criminal cases have been initiated in cases of disrepair of communication lines, signaling, communications or other equipment on the railroad. Of these, only 25 cases have been solved. It is obvious that the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Investigative Committee need to significantly revise their approaches to the detection and investigation of extremist crimes.”
