Alexander Lukashenko meets with Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia

The 1025th anniversary of the Baptism of Russia is the great event for the East Slavic peoples. Since early morning Minsk immersed in an atmosphere of spirituality and unity. Thousands of people participated in the procession and the solemn liturgy. In honor of such a significant event in the history of the three Slavic states, the Head of State touched the great shrine of the St. Andrew Cross in the All Saints Temple. After that Alexander Lukashenko met with Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia and the primates of the local Orthodox Churches. According to Alexander Lukashenko, it is faith that is the basis of the Slavic cultures.


By Sergei Khamentovsky: Arriving at the All Saints Church, Alexander Lukashenko touched one of the most revered Orthodox shrines - the Cross of St. Andrew. Later he met with Patriarch Kirill and heads of Orthodox churches.


The Patriarch thanked the President for the high level of celebrations of the 1025th anniversary of the Baptism of Rus in Belarus. In memory of the meeting, Alexander Lukashenko received the statue of Prince Vladimir the Baptist from Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia.


The Head of State together with Patriarch Kirill and Metropolitan Filaret took part in the symbolic cancellation of the special 1025th anniversary of the Baptism of Rus postage stamp block. The President thanked the Patriarch and the Orthodox hierarchs for their initiative to finish the celebrations in the Belarusian capital.
