By Alexei Adashkin: Alexander Lukashenko gave a thorough assessment of the election campaign during yesterday’s interview to journalists at a polling station. Today’s working meeting with the Presidential Administration Head has also been dedicated to the main political event of the year.

The parliamentary elections in Belarus were monitored by national and international observers, including the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation and the CIS mission consisting of 333 experts led by Sergei Lebedev. The final document prepared by the CIS mission was announced by Lebedev at the information centre the morning after the elections. The progress of the campaign and voting results were discussed at a meeting with the Belarusian President.

According to the CIS mission, the elections took place in compliance with the Constitution, being transparent, open and free.

A major political event in the post-soviet space – a CIS Heads of State summit – is scheduled to take place in Kyrgyzstan’s capital Bishkek on Friday. Alexander Lukashenko has discussed preparations for the event with the CIS executive Secretary. The summit is an additional opportunity for high-level bilateral talks. As announced by the Belarusian leader, the development of Belarus-Russia relations, and in particular, prices for energy products, might become one of the summit’s topics. Today, the President has tasked Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Semashko to reach an agreement on this issue with Russia within two days.
