Alexander Lukashenko will consider three option of raising the retirement age with a phased introduction of this decision to start from 1 January, 2017. This is the result of a meeting on pension system development. Alexander Lukashenko considers it fair that raising the retirement age should affect all. The determining factors in making the decision are the Government’s proposals based on economic calculations and the opinion of the country’s citizens, which can not be ignored. It is also necessary to take into account the difference in life expectancy between men and women, the specificity of cities and villages, working conditions in some spheres and a number of other factors.
Addressing the Government, Alexander Lukashenko stressed that all aspects of the issue under discussion should be carefully and thoroughly considered to work out the best options for the pension system to be reliable and flawless. The President intends to hold another meeting in the near future to make the final decision on this issue.
