The Belarusian chairmanship in the CSTO, exercise West-2017, the protection of the state border and security. President Alexander Lukashenko discussed these issues in detail today with the leadership of the State Secretariat of the Security Council. Similar meetings with representatives of the key power structures have already become regular. It is the Security Council that oversees the power bloc, on which our peace and order depend. The results of the work of law enforcement agencies for the first half of the year were evaluated positively in all aspects. In addition, this year our country presides in the CSTO. The qualitative strengthening of the influence of this organization, increasing its effectiveness are the priorities of Belarus. The President called this issue a matter of principle.

Belarus is the chair of the Collective Security Treaty Organization. The CSTO allies expect from this leadership effective and new solutions. This is diplomacy based on the restoration of confidence with the OSCE and NATO. This is the development, production and supply of the latest weapons. This is the fight against illegal immigrants, slave trade, drug trafficking and terrorism along the entire perimeter of the CSTO borders.

The culmination of the chairmanship in the CSTO will be the Session of the Collective Security Council. It will be held next autumn at the highest level.

Igor Korotchenko, editor-in-chief of the National Defense magazine: "Belarus' chairmanship in the CSTO has given an additional and powerful impetus to the organization. Minsk has always been a proactive decision-maker. We appreciate the role of the President of Belarus in the collective security system, the Belarusian army is one of the best in the post-Soviet space, the defense-industrial complex of Belarus provides a number of outstanding developments. Belarus has a huge potential, and the initiatives put forward by Belarus are supported by real military and defense potential, and most importantly political will, the desire to make sure that we felt safe."
