Today, Alexander Lukashenko held a meeting with the leadership of the State Secretariat of the Security Council of the Republic of Belarus. Among the issues discussed were protection of the state border, the chairmanship of Belarus in the CSTO, the West-2017 military drills, and security in the country.

The Security Council oversees the issues of peace and order in the country. This year, Belarus has assumed its chairmanship in the CSTO. Belarus prioritizes qualitative strengthening of the influence of this organization and increase of its effectiveness. The upcoming West-2017 military drill will serve as proof that Belarus is consistent in ensuring its own security, as well as that of our closest ally – Russia.

At the meeting with the Security Council, the topic of optimizing the power unit was also discussed today. The President called this issue a matter of principle. The quantitative and qualitative composition of security agencies will be determined already this year. In the future, optimization will become a permanent task for the heads of specific departments. Alexander Lukashenko also drew attention to the importance of maintaining order in the streets of Belarusian cities.

In 2019, Minsk will host the 2nd European Games. Therefore, maintaining security during the sports forum will be the number one task and a kind of a test for the law enforcement in the country. The President stressed that Belarus should conduct these large-scale competitions with dignity.
