Our history and culture take their roots in Polotsk. Alexander Lukashenko visited ancient Euphrosyne Monastery. Saint Euphrosyne of Polotsk in the XII century built a church that has survived to this day. More than 120 000 tourists come here every year.
The monastery keeps a restored relic: the cross of the Saint. At the initiative of the Belarusian Exarchate and thanks to the assistance of the President, anyone can touch the shrines today. And it took two decades to restore the original frescoes of the XII century. Archaeologists are students of Polotsk University.
The President asks to restore and preserve our rich heritage. It’s not only about large-scale state programs, but rather about each of us being a part of our small homeland. The pandemic has forced the entire world to reassess its values.
The heart of the Belarusian land and the center of Europe are in Polotsk. Different cultures, different faiths, and traditions of the East and West have intertwined here. It is no exaggeration to say that this is not just the cradle of one state, but the cradle of peace and unity in the region.
