Alexander Lukashenko: Only high-quality product should be present on domestic market

22 октября 2018

The development of the alcoholic beverage industry was discussed today at a meeting with the President. The main issues are protection of the domestic market from poor-quality alcohol and gray imports, competition for domestic counters and slow export growth. The main task is unchanged: only a quality product should be present on the domestic market. According to the Head of State, there are other problems in this industry, including unfair competition and difficulties in mutual settlements. At the same time, all parties have different views on the solution of these problems. The position of the President is firm: the interests of both consumers and industry workers should be taken into account, since changes affect people first and foremost. At the same time, there should be equal conditions for both state and private producers.

Belarus defends quality products at the site of the Eurasian Economic Commission. The position of the official Minsk is preservation of compulsory certification of alcohol products: after all, it affects people's health.

Among the problems are debts and low export growth rates. State-owned enterprises are losing ground in the domestic market. The government proposes to establish uniform retail prices for some types of alcoholic beverages and to improve the mechanism for using quotas for producers. It will stimulate export deliveries.

The President set the task to settle all issues before the new year.

The Head of State began this meeting with another important topic - agriculture. Farmers are completing the harvesting work; preparation for spring sowing will start soon. These topics were discussed in detail today, given the fact that all the governors were present at the Palace of Independence. Strict requirement of the President is to complete the harvesting work before November 7.
