Belarus is interested in the experience of the Council of Europe in the field of local self-government. This was stated by President Alexander Lukashenko at a meeting with the Сhair of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities Gudrun Mosler-Törnström.
Also our history of cooperation at the regional level can be useful for the European community. In general, the work at the local level is a serious foundation on which the quality of life of many people is based. That is why so much attention is paid to the development of local ties in Belarus. Minsk will host a round table with congress representatives from France, Italy, the Netherlands, Greece, Romania. The participants will not only to exchange experiences in the development of local self-government, but also study the Belarusian developments in this area.
Gudrun Mosler-Törnström, Chair of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe: "We are really very happy to be here in Minsk and we believe that our event will be successful, and for us this is only the beginning of fruitful cooperation. We would like to note that, and the seminar we are organizing here will be useful for Congress as well, since we can learn from you and we are really ready to learn from you and I believe that we are ready to learn from each other."
The Congress of Local and Regional Authorities is a body of the Council of Europe. It consists of 324 people. These are representatives of 200 thousand municipalities of 47 countries of the Council of Europe.
Today, at a meeting with Gudrun Mosler-Törnström, the Chairman of the Council of the Republic Mikhail Myasnikovich noted that Belarus is interested in intensifying cooperation with Europe.
