Only internal stability is a guarantee of survival of Belarus. This statement was made by our President today at a meeting on the urgent issues.
Once again, Alexander Lukashenko dwelled on the sensitive points of the world agenda and their impact on Belarus. Attempts to deploy revolution scenarios have failed in Belarus. But we cannot relax, maintain law and order and protect law-abiding citizens. The situation is under control, but the destructiveness of street processions on weekends is obvious. Of course, economic issues are also on the agenda.
Today it is already clear how closely Belarus is woven into the canvas of planetary events that surprised us in recent weeks and months.
А. Lukashenko about the second wave of coronavirus: society must be aware of its responsibility
Of course, it would be much easier without COVID. It seems that this pandemic has turned the planet upside down. In Belarus, a clearly arranged power vertical was able to cope with the first wave of COVID.
Alexander Lukashenko, President of Belarus: "We have developed an algorithm of actions. Governors should take the lead in monitoring the implementation of coronavirus prevention measures, in organizing the treatment process. I ask the governors to immediately return to their functional responsibilities in the COVID-19 period of the first wave. We did a very good job then. The governors played their organizational and material supporting role. You know what to do".
At the same time, Alexander Lukashenko drew attention to the need to observe preventive measures on a personal level, implement recommendations of doctors, adhere to the rules of hygiene and social distance.
Having disrupted the scenario of the color revolution, the state keeps the situation in the country under control. Street rallies certainly do not add medical optimism. It is a paradox, but those who yesterday criticized the authorities for their unwillingness to lock up the country and people, today are not confused by the lack of distance and protection measures in the crowd on the avenues. Yes, protest activity has fallen, but it is too early to be complacent, theplans to overthrow the country have not disappeared.
А. Lukashenko about new tactics of street protests: Destructiveness of this movement is evident.
"Do not be under any illusions: no one has given up on new attempts to blow up the situation in the country," said Alexander Lukashenko. At the same time, he noticed that government agencies are already so accustomed to street rallies that they have ceased to take them seriously.
"But there are also technologies aimed forming new, radical forms of protest organization. Yes, they have failed. But more radicalism has appeared. These radicals are trying to drag the youth, children into some kind of provocation," the President said. "There is a constant change of tactics. Young people are intentionally doing provocations: go to the houses of special forces officers, burn cars, release political prisoners, block the roads, throw themselves under the traffic police transport and so on. It is clear what they are doing: someone obviously lacks blood and sacred victims.
New details about Tikhanovskaya's departure to Lithuania
She could have, but she did not become that very sacral victim. This scenario could have been the truth of life for Mrs. Tihanovskaya. The authorities helped her and managed to get her to Lithuania in time.
"That housewife Tikhanovskaya today forgot that the President of Belarus saved her," the head of state said. Alexander Lukashenko told how he summoned KGB chairman Valery Vakulchik late in the evening (he was subsequently appointed Secretary of State of the Security Council) and instructed him to "remove the most combat unit from the streets and take control of the opposition headquarters. Otherwise, bigtroublewouldhavehappened,"thePresidentsaid.
"50 foreign journalists were brought there along with Tikhanovskaya and others. Tikhanovskaya's so-called guards included a former police officer who called the Interior Ministry: he was alarmed that so many people had gathered in one house". According to the President, 120 law enforcement officers were involved in the crime prevention operation. "The plan was to set the headquarters on fire and blame the authorities," he explained. On the next day, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya asked for an appointment with the Minister of Internal Affairs, about which Yuri Karayev reported to the President. In general, the request was as follows: "Please, tell the President, I want to leave Belarus: there will be a mischief". And I gave the orderto take her to Lithuania for children. And when she said that she did not have money to live there, I gave the order, 15 thousand dollars were taken from the state enterprise and given to her. "Thank you very much," she cried. At the same time, the Belarusian embassy in Lithuania was instructed to help Svetlana Tikhanovskaya with her relocation, including the search for an apartment. "But she was quickly taken over by the Lithuanian special services. You know everything else", the President added. "This sacral victim did not happen, but imagine if it did. That's why no one pushed her abroad. It was a question of life and death, it was her wish."
А. Lukashenko about new tactics of street protests: the destructiveness of this movement is evident.
"The destructiveness of this street movement is evident. Today they are talking about the dialogue, and they insist on the impossible requirements," the President noted. The head of state noted that the protesters call their demonstrations peaceful, but at the same time they are engaged in harassment of supporters of the authorities, threatening civil servants, military personnel and their families with massacres. "Many people simply demand a brutal order. I want to calm them down: this cruelty is not necessary today," Alexander Lukashenko stressed. - "I apologize, of course, to some of Minsk citizens and ask them to just be patient."
The Belarusians voted for peace and order in the country; the authorities are obliged to fulfill this will of people:
Alexander Lukashenko also noted the law enforcersdid not give in to provocations. Nevertheless, law enforcement agencies should first of all protect law-abiding citizens. In no case should law-abiding people make claims against us. It is unacceptable when a radical part of the protesters start throwing stones, paving stones, and sticks at our servicemen, the head of state stressed. "We have a state governed by the rule of law. The Belarusians voted for peace and order in the country; we are obliged to fulfill this will of people," said Alexander Lukashenko. "Keeping our direct opponents in sight, we are missing a neutral part of our society, which is, if I may say so, between the authorities and the opposition. These people want stabilization, some of them are in a state of uncertainty. Therefore, they need to be given a clear guideline for further development of the socio-political situation in Belarus".
