The Vitebsk festival serves noble purposes. This was said today by President Alexander Lukashenko, as he was addressing the guests of the forum. The head of state particularly noted the unique atmosphere of interethnic friendship that prevails outside the state borders, outside political and religious views and beliefs. The current festival gathered representatives of more than 40 countries on the banks of the Western Dvina.

Alexander Lukashenko attends the opening of this large-scale international art festival every year. At the solemn ceremony, the head of the Belarusian state traditionally presented a special award "Through art to peace and mutual understanding". This time its laureate was the Soviet and Kazakhstan pop singer, actress, teacher, the People's Artist of Kazakhstan Roza Rymbayeva. The Grand Prix of the 16th International Children's Music Contest "Vitebsk-2018" was presented to a young performer from Ukraine Alexander Balabanov.
