Large-scale celebrations to mark a special date in our calendar will be held in the capital city and the regions. The festive marathon started today with a solemn meeting featuring the President.
As Alexander Lukashenko pointed out, today Belarusians are going through the most serious examination for a quarter of a century - the test for political independence and responsibility to future generations. However, any test can be coped by a nation which has defeated Nazism! It is not only economic pressure. It's also the fight for the most important values won back then, in the hot forties! The liberation of the Belarusian capital brought us the long-awaited freedom and independence, our own place in the history and on the map of the planet. Today the Palace of the Republic welcomes those for whom the coming day is a special holiday. People of different generations, ranks and statuses are here. Scientists, doctors, teachers, artists and athletes. The Independence Day is also a symbol of the success of the sovereign country and its unity. And this is our strength, Alexander Lukashenko is convinced. It saved us when we were held back by the hardest blow of fate. It is important today, since the attempts of aggression have flared up again.
President: The attempts to occupy Belarus in the modern hybrid warfare have flared up with renewed vigor. And Belarusians are united not only in defending the sovereign right to their own way. The historical past and the truth of the victory need protection today, too!We will not give up our victory, Alexander Lukashenko assures. We have the right to rebuff all attempts to make criminals heroes.
President: We're undergoing the most serious test of citizenship and political consistency. Our people have shown themselves to be true custodians of sovereignty.
The festive meeting was closed by the concert of the best performers and bands of the country.
Freedom, unity, our achievements. There is no argument: they are recognized around the world. But to this day, not everyone seems to be able to come to terms with it.
