Alexander Lukashenko: The Mound of Glory is a sacred symbol for Belarusians who lost every third citizen in WWII

3 июля 2021

July 3 official celebrations started from a place that embodies a special meaning for every Belarusian and is filled with mixed feelings of pain, pride and grandeur - the Mound of Glory.

This man-made monument glorifies the memory of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War, and the monument itself has become the embodiment of our independence and free life.

The President took part in the commemorative events. On this festive day, Alexander Lukashenko spoke about how important it is to remember the lessons of history. And the whole world should know about the genocide of the Belarusian people during the Great Patriotic War. We should remember those terrible events of the past for the sake of the future.

The land of the hero-cities of the entire Soviet Union was placed on the Mound of Glory. The ground, which absorbed the tears of mothers and the pain of millions of lost lives. It was this symbolic place that became the site of our Independence Day celebrations.

There are monuments of the Great Patriotic War all over the Belarusian land. But there are no abandoned ones. After all, behind each of them is a personal story and a common victory. Belarus does not forget its heroes.

"For us, the Belarusians, who lost every third citizen in that war, the Mound of Glory is a sacred symbol. A symbol of our independence and free life," said Alexander Lukashenko. He noted that there is a capsule with a message to future generations, the essence of which is simple and always relevant, especially in these times: to cherish the memory of the Great Patriotic War and to be patriots of the Fatherland.

This appeal to preserve the memory for the sake of the future was made more than once. But this day is special. It seems that Alexander Lukashenko, using the power of the sacred place, wanted to reach out to the younger generation.

Alexander Lukashenko, President of the Republic of Belarus:

You are the future of our country. I would very much like it if you would not lose this country, if you are the ones who have will come to the leadership of our country and save everything we have created for a quarter of a century. You know, our generation has already made its mark in this life. We have created a sovereign and independent state. Just think, for the first time in the history, in the long history, in the millennial history of Belarus this is our first state. This is what our generation has done by defending the Victory they gave us. Now it is up to you. I repeat once again, because you must not give up our country, our land to anyone, byou are our children, the children of our generation and some of you already have children. You must convince them that they will have no other land, that this is their land, your land. All of us will go away someday, but we all have to leave something on this earth. Each personally and all together. This is the main problem and task of modern history - the transition to a new generation.

Alexander Lukashenko, President of the Republic of Belarus:

Someone is proud of their wealth in the form of natural gas, oil, gold, metals, but there is no more valuable and expensive gift than the Great Victory. Those who want to forget this victory, they are simply insane. They don't think about what we will lose. But the truth is also, it is a complaint against our generation, that we did not know how to present the essence of our Victory to those misguided in our country. We did not teach them to appreciate that Victory, and to appreciate us, that we saved them, that we gave them life. We have to admit, our generation has failed in this respect.
