9 октября 2020
Only internal stability is a guarantee of the survival of Belarus. This was stated today by Alexander Lukashenko at the meeting on urgent issues.

More than 20 participants included deputy prime ministers, governors, representatives of the Ministry of Health and the security forces of the state. The economy, decent standard of living of Belarusians, internal political situation and external situation are being discussed at this moment. Perhaps the key message is to unite and stand firm in order to prevent the development of scenarios in those countries where it is not calm now. Indeed, despite global shocks, the economy remains stable. Belarus fulfills both external debt and social obligations and even finds opportunities to build up investment and industrial potential to ensure a decent standard of living for the population.

A wide range of issues was raised. The protection of citizens and the state, the strengthening of law and order, and the prevention of rampant crime are put in the first place.

Alexander Lukashenko, President of the Republic of Belarus: "We have a rule-of-law state, we must not allow crime to rampant so that someone would think that the law does not work in these conditions. Belarusians voted for peace and order in the country, we must fulfill this order of the people. Only internal stability is a guarantee of the survival of Belarus. I warned about the many dangers and challenges that the country will face at the stage of the election campaign. I also spoke about our position after coronavirus would pass. All this has happened. And it is happening. If we want to be called a human, a nation, we must unite and stand."

The primary task of the current government, in the opinion of the President, is to provide a clear guideline for further socio-political development. Belarusians want to stabilize the situation. Some of them are in a state of uncertainty. Alexander Lukashenko asked a number of questions to the Ministry of Education and trade unions.

President demands to revise the work of the trade union vertical

"The behavior of some of the students shows their careless attitude towards higher education. This can lead to the loss of its value as a significant social stage. Principals of universities are not doing enough. We must solve the staffing problem at such universities within a week.

The task of the unions is to protect the rights of workers. The chairmen of trade union organizations did not succumb to political excitement. They did a great job in the elections and they carry this difficult burden even now. But there are leaders, especially primary organizations, who are supposed to be at the forefront of enterprises. Some went into the shadows. We need to immediately reconsider the approaches in the work of the trade union vertical, directing efforts to form trusting interaction between the management of enterprises and workers. Trade unions, like any other organization, including a youth organization, need to find concrete work and show the population that they are doing the right thing."

Alexander Lukashenko also sees many shortcomings in the work of the media. There must be a powerful core, ready to defend information sovereignty. Also, the President is convinced that the state should pursue a more persistent information policy on the Internet. Special attention is paid to personnel. We need to hire initiative people with an active state position and the ability to conduct a dialogue with the population. Reliability, patriotism, loyalty to the ideas of the people come to the fore.
