Alexander Lukashenko and the head of the State Customs Committee discussed the results of the work of the Belarusian customs for 2019 at the Palace of Independence. The President drew attention to the implementation of tasks assigned to the department. Export duties decreased by a third due to the fall in volumes in the oil industry. The revenue, the committee is responsible for, and the future World Hockey Championship, which will be held in Minsk and Riga, were also discussed. The modernization of the Urbany checkpoint on the border with Latvia was completed last year.

The customs authorities identified 47,000 offenses and almost 400 crimes in 2019. Specialists seized more than half a ton of drugs from illicit trafficking. The largest parties were tried to be delivered to Russia. 181 criminal cases were instituted for psychotropics. Customs officers suppressed the illegal transportation of cash. Active struggle with violators did not affect the convenience and speed of transit.

The work of the Customs Committee in the international arena is expanding: 20 agreements on cooperation and mutual assistance have been signed with China, the USA, Uruguay, Ukraine and the European Union. 23 million euros were invested by partners, including Beijing, in improving checkpoints. The total transit to the EAEU increased by 5%. This is 17 million tons of cargo, most of which went to Russia.
