According to the head of the Central Election Commission, the voter turnout in the upcoming local elections in Belarus may exceed 60%. Such high numbers are largely possible due to the option of early voting.

Lidia Yermoshina, the Chair of the Central Election Commission of Belarus: "We have no voter turnout thresholds for local elections, but you understand that the Central Election Commission and the local authorities are fighting for voter turnout because when people do not vote there is no credible people's representation. So we would like everyone to go to the polls and cast their vote."

At the moment, candidates for deputies in local councils are campaigning. The elections are scheduled for 18 February. Early voting starts on 13 February.
