Nomination of candidates for local councils will begin on December 10. This was stated by chairman of the Central Election Commission of Belarus Lydia Yermoshina at a meeting of the Central Election Commission.
This stage will continue till January 8. Registration will be held from 9 to 18 January. The CEC considers the collection of signatures to be the most effective way of nominating candidates for deputies in local elections. Lydia Yermoshina gave recommendations to those wishing to be nominated to the local Councils of Deputies.
In Belarus, candidates are nominated in traditional ways: from political parties, labor collectives and from citizens - by collecting signatures. A citizen of Belarus who has reached the age of 18 may be a deputy of the local Council if he does not have a criminal record and resides in the territory of the relevant administrative unit or is connected with it by professional activities. Also citizens of Russia permanently residing on the territory of Belarus can nominate themselves.
