Elections-2024 in Belarus: CEC approves calendar and tells who will be able to observe the elections

21 ноября 2023

Belarus is entering an active phase of preparation for the single day of voting. Today the Central Election Commission has approved the calendar plan and a number of resolutions that launch the work.

On preparations for a single day of voting

Territorial and district commissions will be formed until December 11. There will be 110 district commissions, according to the number of deputies of the lower house of parliament. They will also perform the functions of electing deputies to the regional and Minsk City Councils - this is one of the innovations of the upcoming election campaign.

With the entry into force of the decrees on the appointment of elections, signed by the head of state the day before, the commissioners (not only the CEC, but also both houses of parliament, the Foreign Ministry and the President) can send invitations to foreign missions to observe the elections. It is expected to be a pool of experts who will bring their positive experience in conducting elections. It will be supplemented by national observers.

Igor Karpenko, Chairman of the Central Election Commission of Belarus:

The terms of accreditation of national observers have changed. Today, if you intend to participate in election observation in a particular commission, you must pass the accreditation process before the early voting. That is, if early voting begins on February 20, then February 19 is the last day of registration of national observers for observation in this or that commission.
