30 ноября 2017

The Belarusian capital today has become the center of the big Eurasian policy. In the Palace of Independence, the CSTO summit gathered the leaders of 6 countries: Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan. This year the CSTO is being chaired by our country. The priorities of the Belarusian chairmanship were reflected in the decisions that were adopted today. Among the documents signed there is an agreement on cooperation in the field of information security, a joint statement on the situation in Syria, as well as a decision on the resistance to an uncontrolled migration The recent events in Egypt, when hundreds of civilians were killed, once again showed the whole world the need for consolidated approaches in the fight against terrorism, as the main threat to global and regional security. The meetings were held in open and closed formats.

We are talking about cybercrime, human trafficking, drug trafficking, terrorism, information and economic aggression. Official Minsk, as the most active and principled member, and after the successes of the Minsk summits in Ukraine, was entrusted to systematize the backbone of the organization's tasks and to strengthen ties with partners

Leonid Ivashov, Colonel-General, Doctor of Historical Sciences, President of the Academy of Geopolitical Problems (Russia): "Belarus is the most active member of the CSTO, and above all the most active in understanding of those threats, dangers, readiness for military aggression."

Analysts are also advocating for the expansion of the CSTO responsibility zone. For example, threats in the economy or virtual reality today are no less real for states than the military aggressions of the past.

The CSTO is systematically fighting against cyber-crime since 2015.

A more popular topic is the fight against illegal migration and traffic. The painful point of the European Union, which could not immediately stop the waves of refugees, showed how much this component of security is important.

Separate agreements on information security and countering illegal migration were considered as the most important. Also, the reports and clarifications on the CSTO budget and the new stage of military-technical cooperation were verified with the signatures of the Presidents.
