The Lithuanian authorities are recalling the ambassador from Belarus for consultations, the press service of the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry said.
Foreign Minister Linas Linkevicius said in the message: "Our goal is to preserve diplomatic contacts as much as possible. We also notified the Belarusian side, with which we agreed that the temporary recall of the ambassador for consultations would reduce tensions and help to preserve the diplomatic representation at the ambassadorial level."
Minsk announced that it was recalling its ambassadors in Poland and Lithuania for consultations at the end of last week. Warsaw and Vilnius have been proposed to do the same. Belarusian Foreign Ministry spokesman Anatoly Glaz stressed that these "forced measures were taken not without regret after long patience and appeals for prudence, solely in view of the special destructive role that the leadership of Poland and Lithuania had decided to perform in relation to Belarus".
