Addressing the 22nd OSCE Ministerial Council plenary session in Belgrade today, Belarus’ Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei stressed that security, trust and consolidation are the three key pillars that, according to the official Minsk, should form the foundation for building promising cooperation in the OSCE. It necessary to renew the strategic consensus on common objectives and cooperation principles, the Foreign Minister believes.

“Unfortunately, the OSCE has not moved away from bloc thinking. Interstate relations are still dominated by the right of force, confrontation and sanction thinking,” the Minister said. “Diplomacy takes a back seat, and success is measured by the damage done to the opponent, but not by the problem’s solution”.

“Our citizens expect us to act quickly and decisively”, Vladimir Makei emphasises. “The OSCE is the right regional format and instrument capable of providing an effective joining of the member states’ efforts to respond to common challenges and threats”.

Belarus is ready to share experience and increase its contribution to OSCE efforts in fighting terrorism and illegal immigration and support for Ukraine’s peace process.
