Belarus’s participation in the EU’s Eastern Partnership initiative brings concrete results, but there could be more. Today this was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of our country. Vladimir Makei takes part in the expert meeting 10 years of Eastern Partnership: Results and Prospects. It was organized by the Council on Foreign Relations Minsk Dialogue and the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Official high-level events on the occasion of the anniversary are planned to be held in Minsk in the autumn.
Belarus considers the start of negotiations on a basic agreement to be a priority in relations with the European Union. The work on further liberalization of the visa regime will be continued. Belarus is consistently promoting its initial vision of the Eastern Partnership as a pragmatic and flexible tool for cooperation and reducing confrontation. So, if the US military presence increases in Poland, Makei noted, this, with a high degree of probability, will lead to retaliatory measures on the part of Belarus and its military allies, adding that Belarusians would like such a development of events the least.
