22 июня 2017

Today the Belarusian Foreign Minister opened the meeting of the CEI countries’ foreign ministers. Vladimir Makei stressed the importance of united Europe especially now that the situation in the region is close to a critical one. Therefore, we should not push aside partners who are not European enough, and everyone needs to work together to overcome the threats and challenges.

Vladimir Makei, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus:

"Today's event is special for Belarus, because our country has the honour to stand at the helm of the Central European initiative for the first time. We would like our chairmanship to make the maximum contribution to bringing the region together in the face of new challenges, such as the migrant crisis, combating terrorism, as well as economic and financial problems. As never before, it is obvious today that the only way to cope with these challenges is through coordinated efforts of all European countries. This is not the place for a selective dialogue, in which we can ignore partners who are not European enough."

At the moment, the meeting is coming to an end. Today, the ministers are expected to give a final press conference.
