Hungary supports strengthening of Minsk-EU cooperation

The symbolism of Belarus’ chairmanship of the CEI was pointed out at a meeting between the Foreign Ministers of Belarus and Hungary. Being part of the Eurasian Economic Union, Belarus is at the same time developing relations with European partners.

According to Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto, Hungary highly respects Belarus’ recent overall achievements and tries to ensure that these achievements are duly appreciated by the EU. Hungary welcomes the process of lifting EU sanctions against Belarus and supports visa regime simplification between Belarus and the EU. Hungary also wants the EU to take a more active part in financing the development of the Belarusian economy. In view of Belarus’ achievements in the economy, Hungary supports Belarus’ progress in the negotiations on WTO membership.

In turn, Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei pointed out Hungary's comprehensive approach to further developing the foreign economic strategy Eastern Opening. Belarus welcomes the country’s intention to intensify bilateral relations. Belarus and Hungary have reached absolutely complete mutual understanding on all issues. Thanking Peter Szijjarto for the sincere and constructive exchange of views, Vladimir Makei assured him that Belarus had exactly the same approach to the bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

The talks held by the Foreign Ministers focused on the economy and the development of mutually beneficial trade, economic and investment ties. The parties signed the second Program of cooperation between the Foreign Ministries for two years.
