CSTO summit starts in Minsk

At these moments, the leaders of all CSTO member countries have gathered in the Palace of Independence. The session of the CSTO Collective Security Council has opened there. All Heads of State were greeted by Alexander Lukashenko. This year the CSTO summit is held under the chairmanship of Belarus. Among our initiatives are strengthening of the role of the organization in the international arena, enhancing of the operational readiness of the collective forces with an emphasis on the practical component, improving of the crisis response system and in general, deepening of military-technical cooperation and ensuring of economic security. When opening the summit, Alexander Lukashenko said that Belarus is a consistent supporter of active interaction in the CSTO.

The agenda includes about 20 issues. It is expected that decisions will be taken on various areas of the CSTO activity, which, among other things, will reflect the priorities of the Belarusian chairmanship. Its preliminary results were summed up earlier at a joint meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers

The leaders will also discuss the situation in the world and the development of the organization as a powerful structure providing security in the region. Symbolically, the presidency of our country fell on the anniversary year. The CSTO celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Collective Security Treaty and the 15th anniversary of the organization itself.
