By Olga Anishchenko: The world's largest regional organization deals with developing cooperation and ensuring security on the continent. Hundreds of delegates from 57 European countries have already arrived in Belarus to take part in the 26th summer session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly. The President of Belarus is also expected to attend the event. The discussion of global problems will be covered by over 50 foreign journalists and Belarusian media. The agenda will include a wide range of issues from politics to cybersecurity, economy and environmental protection, the President Hotel being the central venue.
According to Chairman of the House of Representatives Vladimir Andreichenko, the Belarusian capital has deserved the right to become a platform for discussing world problems, which means the recognition of the country’s role in ensuring security and cooperation in the European region.
The first delegations, including from the United States, Russia, Germany and Italy, as well as OSCE PA President Christine Muttonen, arrived in Minsk yesterday.
The almost week-long forum is expected to result in a final declaration for all the OSCE member countries as a message to the national governments and parliaments in their future activities in such spheres as modern challenges and threats, rational economic actions and humanitarian priorities.
Belarus has prepared a draft resolution to present it at the session. The project dedicated to measures of responding to the emergence of new psychotropic substances has already secured solid international support and has been co-authored by many politicians. Belarus hopes that the initiative will not go unnoticed and, moreover, will become part of the declaration to be adopted following the large-scale parliamentary dialogue in Minsk.
