Strengthening integration in the CIS should be a response to global shocks. The conversation about the future of the Commonwealth continued at the President Hotel at the meeting of the Council of Heads of Government first in narrow, then in extended formats. The past year was hard for the members of the organization, fraught with numerous challenges and problems. This is the pandemic, foreign policy pressure, and sanctions manipulations. This was directly reflected in the economy. At the same time, some states use COVID-19 to change the world order, undermining the existing system. Today, it is extremely important to strengthen regional integration in order to prevent the pressure of strong states over weaker ones. The Commonwealth countries have huge potential in many areas, our economies are complementary and self-sufficient. “By actively expanding multifaceted cooperation, we are able to overcome crises much faster,” the Belarusian Prime Minister is convinced.

There are more than a dozen issues on the agenda. One of them is economic recovery from the pandemic. Emphasis is made on the development of a common economic space, trade liberalization, unification of legislation, employment issues and mechanisms to counter the spread of infectious diseases. Following the meeting, it is planned to sign a number of international treaties.
