During an informal meeting, the Presidents raised the issue of security in Central Asia before and after the withdrawal of peacekeeping forces from Afghanistan. The leaders of Russia and Kazakhstan were to discuss the fate of the NATO's Manas Air Base in Kyrgyzstan and the construction of the railroad through Central Asia. It was anticipated that Vladimir Putin would present a forceful solution of the problem - to physically destroy warehouses and poppy plantations in Afghanistan.
The agenda also included the issue of strengthening the border with Afghanistan. It is expected that Russia will address this problem in the first place.
