Number of applicants for deputy chair increases to 522 in Belarus

This was reported today by head of the Central Election Commission Lidiya Yarmoshyna. Yesterday the Mogilev Regional Commission settled one of the claims. Several applications are being considered in other regions. On average, nearly one candidate in 5 will be successful. TV debates are becoming popular during this campaign. They will be held in all districts of Minsk, Vitebsk and Mogilev regions. Candidates in Grodno are less active. More than half of the registered contenders for a place in the Oval Hall have opened their personal funds.

Simultaneously with the elections to the House of Representatives, nomination of candidates to the Council of the Republic takes place. The lists have been submitted by all regions, except for Minsk. The deadline is Friday, August 19. From August, 20 to 24, the CEC will register candidates in the upper house of parliament.
