By Alexei Nemov: Polling stations have been set up across the country, while initiative groups are completing the collection of signatures in support of presidency candidates’ nomination.
The Gomel region has become a leader in terms of the number of polling stations. 128 people have been accredited to monitor the elections in the region. Specially for them, an observer school has been established in Gomel. Methodological recommendations prepared for the observers sum up CEC provisions.
District commissions, the nomination to which will end on 23 August, will consist of the members of political parties, NGOs and ordinary citizens.
The registration of presidential candidates is scheduled for 6 September. In the meantime, the initiative groups continue collecting signatures.
According to the Gomel regional commission on presidential elections, the initiative groups have already begun submitting signature sheets to district election commissions. Their authenticity will be checked before 31 August. Applications for the candidates’ registration will be accepted by the CEC till 5 September.
