Increasing the role of local authorities in addressing regional issues, such as cleanup and employment, and transfer of some power to them from the center were discussed today at a round table in Minsk by state governors, senators and representatives of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe. Today Belarus has all the prerequisites for this: the issues of local self-government are regulated by law. The Congress is ready to support effective solution of local problems, to conduct retraining of regional managers.
Experts also discussed the prospects for the development of associations of local Councils of Deputies. Particular attention is being paid to strengthening twin-city relations for the development of border areas.
