An OSCE PA delegation led by Christine Muttonen is expected to arrive in Minsk today at the invitation of Belarus’ National Assembly. A Parliamentary Assembly session to be held in Minsk this year should become an important step towards further ensuring stability and security in the European region.

According to Head of the Information Department and Press Secretary of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry Dmitry Mironchik, the main purpose of the visit is to discuss preparations for and holding of the 26th annual session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Minsk on 5-9 July, as well as the official signing of an agreement between the Belarusian Parliament and the OSCE PA on holding the session. The visit’s programme, among other things, includes a meeting between Christine Muttonen and Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei, scheduled for 16 March.

Over 300 parliamentarians from 56 countries are expected to arrive in Minsk. Hosting the 26th session is a good opportunity for Belarus to increase its role in world politics and security, as well as promote national interests and expand economic cooperation.
