By Maxim Korotkin: CSTO Secretary General Nikolai Bordyuzha has announced CSTO plans for the nearest future. The CSTO has been concerned with combating cybercrime for years. All the necessary documents have already been approved by the heads of state and are ready to be implemented. At the same time, the organisation is working to create a common crisis response centre with headquarters in Russia, which is part of the priorities put forward by Belarus during its CSTO presidency.
Major strategic threats to CSTO security come from Afghanistan, Syria and the Islamic State. It is clear that the CSTO member states should strengthen countering drug trafficking, illegal migration and terrorism.
Among CSTO priorities in 2015 is the development of military cooperation, the improvement of technical equipment in particular. Also, new programmes of cooperation of the military-industrial complexes have been announced.
Traditionally, this year will see a series of military exercises which will be held in the Russian Federation, Armenia and Tajikistan. The main focus will be on the interaction of the organisation’s collective forces and joint anti-terrorist operations.
