Belarus did not allow external forces to realize the Ukrainian scenario. This was stated by Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei at the meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov in Moscow. The head of the Belarusian diplomatic mission stated that Belarus has to respond to both internal and external challenges today.
Vladimir Makei, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus: "Unfortunately, the elections were affected by external and internal forces, which try to destabilize the socio-political and economic situation. We were ready. But this was an unpleasant surprise for us. We have never encountered such a sophisticated preparation of protest actions from outside. Not all problems have been solved yet, but it is already clear that an attempt to implement an aggressive scenario of a revolution has been prevented. We prevented splitting of society in the country."
The position of Russia was emphasized by Sergei Lavrov. Moscow condemns attempts to put pressure on the legitimate authorities of Belarus by individual countries.
Sergei Lavrov, Russian Foreign Minister: "Some members of the relevant organizations, including the OSCE and the UN, are trying to internationalize what is happening in Belarus in every possible way, trying to justify the attempts to impose mediation services through the same OSCE line."
The Foreign Ministers discussed the preparation of a meeting between Presidents Alexander Lukashenko and Vladimir Putin. This information was confirmed by Sergei Lavrov.
