Senators are elected at meetings of local council deputies in each region and the Minsk City Council, with eight people to be elected from each region and the capital. The candidate receiving more than half of deputy votes is considered elected. Another eight senators are appointed by the President.
The results of the elections to the Council of the Republic are to be summed up no later than 30 September.
