Strategic directions for the development of Eurasian integration for a five-year perspective are in the focus of the EAEU leaders.
The meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council was held today in an online format. If it were not for the pandemic, the heads of states would have visited Minsk, as Belarus is chairing integration this year. Alexander Lukashenko sums up the results. Work has been intensified to remove barriers in the single market, the protection of the interests of producers of goods within the Union has been strengthened, measures have been initiated for import substitution in industry and agriculture. But a number of other pressing issues require solutions.
This year, the countries had to transfer the negotiations to the virtual plane. The pandemic has reduced the effectiveness of multi-stakeholder dialogue. In addition, it reoriented the goals of the allies to fight the virus. "But on the other hand, it revealed the essence of integration associations," Alexander Lukashenko is sure. The President noted that COVID convinced everyone that we can become stronger only together. The Belarusian leader called on the partners to continue working to strengthen the union, to approve the integration strategy for the coming years.
Alexander Lukashenko stressed that there is a growing interest in the union in the world. The ideas of Eurasian integration are gaining more and more supporters. The granting of observer status in the EAEU for Cuba and Uzbekistan was agreed upon. Deepening cooperation with states, which are not members of the Union, is a priority of the international policy of the EAEU. The partners will be chaired by Kazakhstan next year and will continue their work.
