Georgian President continues official visit to Belarus

Despite the fact that the leaders of Belarus and Georgia held intensive negotiations and long one-on-one talks yesterday, the dialogue has resumed today. Alexander Lukashenko and Giorgi Margvelashvili have met again at the Palace of Independence, the Belarusian President warmly welcoming his Georgian counterpart in the Winter Garden. The leaders communicated on the go. Margvelashvili shared his impressions of staying in the country and visiting sports facilities. The two Presidents exchanged views on the further development of bilateral relations.

Yesterday saw several negotiation rounds. Belarus and Georgia are interested in promoting cooperation — the countries’ economies complement each other. The volume of mutual trade has increased over the past year to approach 100 million dollars, which is a record observed over the past five years.

Belarusian equipment exports, setting up joint ventures and service centres are among spheres of interest. The Belarusian leader suggested paying special attention to new initiatives. The hi-tech sphere has been actively developing in Belarus in recent years, and its products are already present in the Georgian market.

Belarus is home to about 20 joint ventures and the same number of companies with Georgian capital. The past two years have seen the intensification of contacts between the two countries, contributed to by dialogue between the leaders.

Today, Giorgi Margvelashvili is scheduled to hold meetings in the Government, Parliament and Belarusian National Technical University. The Georgian leader’s first historic visit will end with attending the Mound of Glory memorial complex.
