A very serious situation is developing around the Eurasian Economic Union, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said as he met with Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission Mikhail Myasnikovich on 30 November.
The head of state noted that a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council is scheduled for 11 December. “The agenda has been finalized. It is high time for us to meet face to face, because there are a lot of problems: from military, military-political to economic ones.”
One of the key issues on the agenda on December 11 will be gas in the Union space. There are several ways to resolve it. Mikhail Myasnikovich told reporters about the options. In accordance with the program for the formation of a common gas market in 2021, a draft international agreement should be developed, where the nuances of the formation of prices for fuel and tariffs will be specified.
Mikhail Myasnikovich, Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission: "There is an opinion that the gas issue will be much easier and more successful to resolve within the framework of bilateral relations. For example, Belarus and Russia will negotiate directly, and not wait for the creation of a common market.” Both issues have their advantages and disadvantages. Armenia and Kyrgyzstan unequivocally believe that together with Belarus it will be possible to resolve their issues on tariffs for pumping and gas prices. But it should be borne in mind that the level of integration, cooperation within the framework of bilateral relations also has a very strong position. And sometimes, on the basis of reciprocity, not all issues can be resolved for the five - something can be resolved on a bilateral basis."
