First meeting of the Tripartite Contact Group in 2019

17 января 2019

In 2018, the number of civilian casualties in Donbas has decreased twofold. And the number of injured was the lowest since the beginning of the conflict. The parties are willing not only to consolidate this tendency, but also to achieve the long-awaited peace in the region. This was announced by the OSCE Special Representative Martin Sajdik following the results of the first meeting of the trilateral contact group this year.

Martin Sajdik, OSCE Special Representative for the Tripartite Contact Group:

"At the end of last year, another truce was introduced in connection with Christmas and New Year holidays. As a result, the number of ceasefire violations from December 29 to the day before yesterday was almost twice smaller, as compared to the previous period. In this regard, I urge the parties to take all necessary measures to continue avoiding casualties, to preserve important infrastructure and to ensure a sustainable ceasefire in the future.”

Negotiations will continue. The next meeting of the contact group will be held in Minsk on January 30.
