L. Yermoshina: Parliamentary elections in Belarus prepared by 80%

20 апреля 2016

Parliamentary elections in Belarus have been prepared by 80% already. This was reported by chairman of the Central Election Commission Lidia Yermoshina. All regional and Minsk city executive committees have already agreed the description of electoral districts with the Central Commission. The CEC has scheduled its meeting for May, 17. The election campaign will start in early June, after the approval of the election date. The procedure for rendering the election results will be simplified and the number of constituencies will be increased for the future electoral event.

Lidia Yermoshina, Chair of the Belarusian Central Commission for Elections and National Referendums, says that this year’s parliamentary elections can legally be held in one round only. The winner of the election will not be determined by an absolute majority (more than 50 percent plus one vote). In order to win one should score one vote more than the other competitors. A candidate can only run for one constituency. Because of the dishonest conduct of our opposition during the elections in 2012, the rule was introduced according to which a trustee cannot be a candidate for deputy.

During this campaign, candidates plan to actively use social networks in order to get acquainted with election programs.
