Economics, integration and vaccine production. Informal talks between the Presidents of Belarus and Russia took place yesterday in Sochi.
Alexander Lukashenko thanked Vladimir Putin for the support that the Russian side provides to the economy of our country, and also noted that at least half of Belarus' trade turnover is tied to Russia, and relatively small Belarus is Russia's fourth most important trading partner.
They also talked about large joint projects. For example, the full commissioning of the Belarusian nuclear power plant will save about 5 billion cubic meters of natural gas. But the demand for this raw material in general will not decrease, given the plans to build a new nitrogen plant in Grodno.
The leaders touched upon the topic of vaccination. Russia has already transferred technologies to Belarus for the production of Sputnik V. In our country, production is planned to start in March.
The Presidents continued negotiations in Sochi over skiing after face-to-face meeting. Snowmobiles were also used during the sports session. Later, the meeting protocol provided for a joint lunch.
Today the expert community is actively discussing the results of the big negotiations, in particular, the integration agenda. A lot of work has already been done here. The President of Belarus recalled that about 30 spheres for the development of cooperation and roadmaps had been outlined earlier. The heads of state agreed that the governments of the countries would work on them: they would update and modernize.
The talks lasted about an hour. The spectrum of topics also included international issues and challenges in the field of military security.
