Minsk preparing to host CSTO summit

By Alexei Martinionok: Minsk is preparing to host the CSTO summit. The CSTO Council's session will soon begin its work in the Palace of Independence. The presidents of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan will take part in the summit.

Minsk is hosting the CSTO summit at the highest level for the third time. The information background of this forum can be called quite unique. So experts expect the organization to achieve truly significant results.

These expectations are based on the fact that this year Belarus presides in the CSTO. Among Belarus’ presidency goals are to increase the influence of the organization in the international arena, enhance the operational readiness of the Collective Forces, ensure economic security of the member states and implement a set of additional measures to combat international terrorism, the spread of drugs and illegal migration in the CSTO area.

It is expected that the heads of all CSTO member states will take part in the summit and as a result, will adopt a number of decisions on various areas of the CSTO activity, including the priorities of the Belarusian presidency in the organization.
