Today the Belarusian nuclear power plant is the only one of all operating and projected nuclear power plants in the European region, which has been tested following the latest, most stringent European standards. And our country is launching it openly and transparently. This is how the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus has commented on the note received from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania regarding the start of the work of the Belarusian NPP. The corresponding statement by press secretary of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry Anatoly Glaz is posted on the agency's website. It says:
"The Lithuanian side, as a rule, uses diplomatic correspondence with us on BelNPP issues not to get answers, but to maintain hysteria in its media. Numerous notes, that official Vilnius distributes, generate apocalyptic headlines and, as expected, sow panic among Lithuanian citizens. We were accused of "irresponsible and hasty" launching of the BelNPP. Programs are under the control of Gosatomnadzor and other supervisory authorities."
"Vilnius casts doubt on the authority of the organizations that are system-forming for the global nuclear industry. It is abusing the trust of its EU partners, such as the IAEA and the HLW. They have repeatedly confirmed that there are no shortcomings that can become an obstacle to the safe launch of the first power unit of the BelNPP. By the way, Lithuanian regulator VATESI also participates in the work of these structures, receiving all the necessary information from the Belarusian side," the press secretary of the Foreign Ministry said.
The Belarusian diplomat also stressed that the safety of a nuclear facility is an extremely serious issue.
