Elena Kupchina elected Deputy Chairman of UN Commission on Drugs

As noted the Foreign Ministry of our country, this fact speaks about the high international authority of Belarus in the field of combating the world drug problem. The annual session of the Commission is now being held in Vienna. The Belarusian delegation is headed by Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Andrei Dapkiunas. Representatives of more than 100 UN member States, inter-governmental and non-governmental organizations take part in the event. The session discusses the prevention and treatment of drug addiction, the fight against drug crime (including countering money laundering) and the promotion of law enforcement cooperation. The UN Commission pays special attention to the problem of distribution of new narcotic and psycho-active substances. It is expected that Vienna will decide on the placement of 12 such substances under international control.
