IAEA experts to assess construction site of Belarusian NPP next week

The arrival of the IAEA mission was announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It noted that Belarus invited the experts of the mission for independent review and assessment of the site.

Dmitry Mironchik, Head of the Information Department and Press Secretary of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry: "From 2016 to 2020 January, the IAEA experts will assess Ostrovets NPP in terms of international security and stability requirements to the site, as well as its systems, structures and NPP components in connection with internal and external risks and threats.  This will be done as a confidence-building measure for our first nuclear power plant. At the same time, we want to meet the requests of our neighbor Lithuania for a comprehensive and professional evaluation of all safety aspects of the future station."

As a result of its work, the mission will prepare a report. It will be published in March. Also before the end of the year,  Belarus plans to receive at least one more mission of  the IAEA,  to review the emergency preparedness and response
