Today marks fourth day of OSCE PA session

8 июля 2017

The fourth day of the OSCE PA session is featuring discussions on fighting extremism, migration and Parliamentary Assembly reforms. The committee has adopted Russia’s resolution on combating terrorism. The project supported by Belarus is aimed at fighting terrorism in its modern embodiment and consolidating international efforts. However, the Belarusian delegation considers the resolution on the situation in Eastern Europe to be non-constructive and confrontational. According to Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly’s House of Representatives Boleslav Pirshtuk, such resolutions do not contribute to fruitful dialogue and cooperation within the Assembly. In turn, the Belarusian side has proposed the session’s unifying theme Strengthening Mutual Trust and Cooperation In the Name of Peace and Prosperity in the Region, its discussion supported by the Assembly’s authorities.

Head of the Swiss delegation Filippo Lombardi has been appointed Chairman of the General Committee on Political Affairs and Security.

The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly has also adopted a draft resolution on the inadmissibility of religious discrimination. The session will finish tomorrow with adopting a final document and electing new leaders. Belarus’ resolution aimed at combating the emergence of new psychotropic drugs will become part of the declaration. The initiative has been supported by most of the parliamentarians.
