Belarus anticipating major political campaign

15 ноября 2017

On February 18 Belarus will elect deputies of local councils. This date, proposed by the Central Election Commission, was supported by President Alexander Lukashenko. A meeting of the CEC was held today, at which the calendar plan and budget of the electoral process were approved. This date is the optimal for the Belarusian political calendar.

The powers of these people's representatives are four years in law.

The formation of local councils is the most massive electoral campaign in the country, given the number of its participants. On February 18, 2018 we will have to choose a little over 18 thousand deputies. Traditionally, Belarusians show great interest in determining the composition of power - the turnout in past elections exceeded 77%.

Today, the Central Election Commission approved all stages of this electoral campaign. The nomination of candidates for deputies will begin already on December 10 and will last almost a month. Applicants for such a post need the support of a political party or a work collective.

Citizens of Russia can also run for our local councils if they have a residence permit in Belarus.

The election campaign will be monitored mainly by national observers. However, the Central Election Commission is ready to open doors for foreign diplomats if they show interest.
